Asus G53sx-XA1 Republic of gamers and Alienware AM14X-6667BK are mediocore serious gaming laptop, it’s not high end gaming laptop from both vendors. Asus with Republic of Gamers series and Alienware mx series keep fighting on the same market, gamer market. Both vendor have their own fanatic market. But let’s make some comparison between those two vendors on mediocore gaming laptop based on price (around $1250). Processor, Asus Use powerful sandy bridge processor I7 2630 quad-core processor (2.0 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.9 GHz). The latest CPU is a vast improvement over the previous Clarkdale/Arrandale-based Core i3 and Core i5 chips. Its performance will be increased without a core size increase. Sandy Bridge is the first Intel processor to feature integrated graphics directly in the CPU die. It has been wrestled into a new LGA 1155 socket. Also, the CPU will support OpenGL 3.0, DirectX 10.1 and OpenCL 1.1. Sandy Bridge is the code name for the latest generation of Intel mainstream processors, the successor to the Nehalem micro architecture. It was once known by the code name Gesher, meaning bridge in Hebrew. Alienware M14X use core i5 processor, Intel Core i5 processor will power an ultra thin laptop to boost not only your performance, but your style as well. You can now indulge in a much faster, smarter and thinner laptop than before, in an ultra-sleek design and with enhanced battery life. A thinner laptop weighs less and is more portable, therefore allowing for greater mobility. In this “match” asus take the advantage.
Memory, Both laptop use DDR3 Asus with 8 gb memory upgradeable to 16 gb and Alienware come with 6 gb upgradeable up to 8 gb. More ram will make laptop have better performance, and multi tasking ability. Due the installed ram size and maximum ram supported asus better than alienware.
Storage device, both laptop use 2,5” inches harddrive with 7200 rpm alienware harddrive capacity is 500gb and Asus 50% bigger 750 gb. Bigger storage device make you be able to put/store more files and program on it. Most recent game need more 10 gb hard disk space. more storage space is also possible to store other files such as music and video more freely. but for some others, with the main hard drive storage space is not too large can be helped by an external storage. anyway for storage device with 750 gb asus is a better choice.
Graphic card, Both use Nvidia graphic card with dedicated memory. ASUS G53SX-XA1 GTX 560M graphics with 2GB GDDR5 and Alienware M14X with NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M with 3 GB. Asus GPU better than alienware but alienware GPU memory bigger than Asus. If you want more performance you have to get better GPU (Nvidia GTX 650) but if want bigger maximum resolution you have to take Alienware especially when you want to connect it to huge external monitor. In simple term, Better GPU= Better performance, bigger memory = bigger maximum resolution. So in this “match” I tend to say equal.
Screen, for most gamer bigger screen is better and I agree with it. Both laptop screen are bright and clear wit led technology. Asus ASUS G53SX-XA1 screen is 1,5” inches bigger tah Alienware M14X. In gaming mode, it’s much more fun playing it on big screen, but for mobility reason smaller screen make the laptop more compact and easy to carry. Equal they both have advantage and disadvantage due the screen size choice.
Design, this is hard to say, I love both design and color, but alienware but alienware look more preety when in closed state with the pattern alienware symbol. Asus design is also preety with simple black just like other asus laptop. Result : equal
OPTICAL Disk drive. Both use DL DVDRW in the same speed. Nothing to say about it. Equal !
Wight. Alienware win on it. Due screen reason that Alienware choose smaller screen impact on the weight and cause it 2.25 lbs lighter. Sp if you looking for ligh weight gaming laptop alienware is better choice.
Battery. Both laptop use 8 cell high capacity battery, but Alienware will little bit longer life (when not plug in) because asus use bigger screen which mean need more power but the different is not too significant. Result equal.
Price, Asus bit cheaper than Alienware but no in significant number below than 5%. Both laptop is around $1.250
Overall, both laptop is a good gaming laptop, if you want more performance Asus is better choice, better Processor, bigger Ram, and better GPU will make big different on performance. Asus also have better CP ratio (cost per performance ratio). But Alienware is not bad choice either. With more mobility option this laptop is worth to buy.
